  • Almost depression ... What are cyclothymia, Dysthymia

These disorders have many features in common, but there are also
the difference between them. Both of the above-mentioned disorders are characterized by a low intensity of symptoms. Dysthymia is called a "little depression." Cyclothymia can in turn be seen as a "small" bipolar affective disorder.

The incidence of both units is similar and is 3-6% (data from the literature inconclusive). Dysthymic diagnosis is usually the first or second decade of life, cyklotymii - in the second or third. These disorders disorganise social life are often linked to alcohol abuse. They are a risk factor for mental disorders: Dysthymia - Depression, cyclothymia - bipolar disorder.

As mentioned earlier, between those units, there are also many differences. These include the first therapeutic approach. In the case of treatment dystymii conduct was similar to the pharmacotherapy of depression. It is worth mentioning that the dosage must be relatively large, so you should select preparations for small signs of side effects. For cyklotymii drugs of choice are mood stabilizers (not confirmed the superiority of one of them). The complement pharmacotherapy psychotherapy, used both for dystymii and cyclothymia.

Dysthymia differs from depression and chronic course - to hear dystymii need a minimum of two years of symptoms (similar criterion applies to cyklotymii).
Dystyhymic and Comorbid depression is called double depression (double depression).

These disorders have recently been considered a personality disorder, currently in the group of affective disorders.
